Meet Adam Gunderson

Adam Gunderson has devoted his life to serving others and protecting his community. Born in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Adam grew up in Bejou and later lived in Moorhead, Williston, North Dakota, and St. Cloud. Adam is also a registered descendant of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe and is proud of his northern Minnesota roots. While living in St. Cloud, he joined the Boy Scouts, where he developed a strong sense of service and a desire to help others. It was during this time that he decided to pursue a career in law enforcement.

After his freshman year of high school, Adam’s family moved to Barnesville, Minnesota, where he met his future wife, Melissa. After graduating in 1997, he joined the Minnesota Army National Guard, beginning a military career that included leadership roles and overseas deployments in support of military operations. He is a proud lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, remaining committed to supporting fellow veterans and serving his community.

Adam took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution and has remained committed to public service ever since. Since 2001, he has worked in public safety, serving in various roles in Minnesota law enforcement—including patrol, investigations, leadership, and department administration. With more than 25 years of service, Adam remains dedicated to protecting communities and serving the public.

Adam currently serves as the Police Chief in Bagley, Minnesota, where he focuses on building trust with the community, supporting his officers, and ensuring residents feel safe.

Adam believes the Sheriff’s Office should work side by side with the community, support its deputies, and focus on what matters most: keeping people safe, operating a professional jail and dispatch center, assisting schools and families, and upholding the Constitution.

As Sheriff, Adam Gunderson is committed to:

• Supporting and training deputies so they can do their jobs safely and effectively
• Strengthening partnerships with local communities, schools, and businesses
• Ensuring the jail, dispatch, and court security operations run professionally and efficiently
• Upholding the Constitution and protecting the rights of all citizens

Adam and his wife, Melissa, have been married for 27 years and have seven children; their oldest is married. They are proud to call northern Minnesota home.

Adam is committed to leading the Sheriff’s Office with experience, integrity, and a steadfast dedication to the community he serves.

“I took an oath to defend the Constitution in 1997, and that oath still guides every decision I make.”
